COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — At USA Basketball Men’s U16 National Team Training Camp there were numerous NBA bloodlines on hand.
Beckham Black, a Class of 2027 point guard from Duncanville (TX) High and brother of Orlando Magic point guard Anthony Black, is one of them and he has stood out with his play-making ability.
“One thing he [Anthony] is teaching me is to be a leader,” Beckham told ZAGSBLOG. “He’s teaching me how to lead everyone around me. He’s also taught me to be more aggressive, I feel I’m doing both those things better.”
Beckham plays for his brother’s AAU team, AB Elite.
“I’m a true point guard,” he said. “I try and get my teammates involved a lot and make sure everything is going smoothly. [And I’m] a leader.”
Beckham is a consensus Top-40 recruit in the Class 2027 and he already has some high-major offers.
“I have offers from TCU, USC, SMU, Mississippi State, OSU, FAU, Georgetown, and Cincinnati,” he said.
Arkansas and John Calipari seem to be involved to a degree as well, and he has visited both Arkansas and USC.
“He seems like a good coach,” he said of Calipari. “I liked what he was talking about in the locker room. It made sense. He was holding his guys accountable.”
Arkansas may be a contender for Beckham down the road, especially with his brother Anthony having played there in 2023. However, for now Beckham is just focused on improving and trying to make the 12-man roster for the FIBA U16 Men’s Americup, which will take place in Juarez, Mexico.
“[This camp], it gets me better day-by-day,” he said. “We come here and get better with the top guys.”
